Recreational Activities

Recreational Club

The Sports, Social and Recreation Committee (SSRC) at Pfizer Asia Pacific (PAPPL) is made up of colleagues from all departments. The charter for the committee is to promote and organize events that allow colleagues to participate in sports, social and recreation activities outside of work. With the launch of the Values Leader Behaviors (VLB) initiative, the SSRC has worked diligently to integrate these VLB elements into the planning and organization of our events. VLB elements, including 'Sustain Focus on Performance', 'Align Across Pfizer', 'Develop People', 'Manage Change', 'Encourage Open Discussion and Debate' and 'Create an Inclusive Environment'. Here are some examples that highlight these VLB elements.

Bowling Nite

This event was attended by all Pfizer business units in Singapore, including PAPPL, Pfizer Centre Source (PCS), Pfizer Global Pharmaceuticals (PGP) and Pfizer Clinical Research Unit (PCRU). In addition, the event format was modified and participating teams were grouped into competitive and fun categories. The changes to this annual event was managed solicitously to 'Align Across Pfizer' and to `Create an Inclusive Environment'.

Badminton Competition

PAPPL colleagues participated in both the intra-division and inter-division badminton events in 2005. This is the first of such an event for PAPPL because it allowed us to `Align Across Pfizer’ and created opportunities for `Colleague Development’ in areas of event management and organization.

Pfizer Family Day

The 2005 Pfizer Family Day was held in Downtown East at Pasir Ris. All Pfizer business units in Singapore, not only participated, but also organized and coordinated the whole event. We also took the opportunity to promote the Pfizer’s `Community’ value by hosting patients from the Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) and their family members. This was the biggest event of the year, with an estimated participation of 800 pax.

The theme this year was Active Family, Healthy Family. We had a morning session of boxercise, game stalls and a tele-match where everyone burned some calories. But the calories were quickly put back during lunch, when we packed in the yummy hawker fare such as chicken rice, laksa, and ice-kacang. All these were enjoyed while watching magic & acrobatic shows.

It was certainly a day of fun & laughter not just for the kids, but for the “adults-turned-kids” just to raise funds for the SCS. Above all, colleagues granted the wishes of the children of the cancer patients by buying gifts that met their basic material needs.

Fishing Competition

PGM colleagues formed cross-functional teams to compete in this first PAPPL fishing competition. While waiting for that magical tug of the line, colleagues, friends and family members engaged in open discussion and debate about the best strategies to catch the biggest fish. This event brought about the value of becoming part of an `Inclusive Environment’ where colleagues learn to engage with one another in a competitive but relaxed atmosphere.

Sandwich-making competition

This sandwich-making competition challenged the collective creativeness for all participating departments, and brought a wonderful lunch experience at the PAPPL cafeteria. The objective of this competition was to create the best tasting and visually pleasing, healthy sandwich within a given budget. The participating colleagues demonstrated not only their culinary skills, but also their ingenuity and teamwork to spice up this mouth-watering event.

Terry Fox Run

Pfizer colleagues participated in the 25th Anniversary of the Terry Fox Run, dubbed `The Marathon of hope’ in Sentosa, to raise funds for cancer research and the Singapore Cancer Society. Displaying the same unbeatable spirit of Terry Fox, Pfizer colleagues braved the early morning showers and exhibited the value of `Sustain Focus on Performance’ to finish the race.
