18 Oct 2000 marked the birth of Pfizer's first large scale API manufacturing facility in Asia, registered as Pfizer Asia Pacific Pte Ltd (PAPPL). The
$640 million Singapore dollar investment facility occupies 22 acres of greenfield site at the Tuas Biomedical Park.
The multipurpose manufacturing facility produces organic chemicals, more commonly known as "Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API)" or "Drug Substances", for a wide range of products. It is equipped with state of the art automation equipment and utilizes global, technological and operational best practices. It supplies the building blocks of health care products to the region and the global market through Pfizer's extensive manufacturing and distribution network.
PAPPL reports directly into Pfizer Global Manufacturing (PGM), the manufacturing business unit of Pfizer Inc, based in New York. Pfizer Pte Ltd another Pfizer Inc unit in Singapore, is the sales and marketing office, reporting directly into the Pfizer Pharmaceutical Group (PPG), which is Pfizer Inc's business unit responsible for the sales and marketing of Pfizer's products.
